Covid update (England)

Schools break up for Christmas uncertain of the situation they'll be facing in January, with Covid cases rising fast due to the Omicron variant.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Protect Pupils, Protect Education day of online action last week which saw school staff, parents and MPs urge the government to do more to keep staff and pupils safely in school. UNISON continues to call on the government to introduce urgent mitigations to reduce transmission in schools such as air filters and face coverings.

UNISON is also working with other education unions to update the joint union risk assessment checklist, in light of the latest developments. We will be sending this to all schools in time for January with the most up-to-date information. It will also be available on the Covid page of our website. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates.
